Contact roles and permissions
Decide whether each contact sees billing, work, or both.
Roles control what a contact can see inside their company's portal. Each role has two switches:
| Switch | Lets the contact see |
|---|---|
| Can view billing | Invoices, proposals and contracts |
| Can view work | Projects, tasks, files and messages |
Who gets what
- Owner contacts always see everything.
- Everyone else sees what their assigned role allows.
- A contact with no role can sign in but sees no billing or work content until you assign one.
Creating and assigning roles
- 1
Open the client's Contacts card and find Contact roles
Press to add a role and name it, for example "Billing contact".
- 2
Choose its switches
Tick Can view billing, Can view work, or both.
- 3
Assign it
Pick the role when you add a contact, or change it later from the contact's row.
Creating custom roles is available on the Advanced plan and above. Roles that already exist keep working on every plan.
A finance person who only needs to pay invoices is a classic "billing only" contact, and a day-to-day collaborator is "work only".
