Creating and sending invoices

Build an invoice with line items, tax and a due date, preview it, then save it as a draft or send it.

Add the Invoices app from the App Library. Invoices belong to a client and, optionally, a project.

Creating an invoice

  1. 1

    Choose New Invoice

From Invoices, or from a client's or project's page where the client is already filled in.

  2. 2

    Choose the client and project

Pick who you're billing. Linking a project is optional.

  3. 3

    Add line items

Describe each item and give a quantity and rate. Add as many lines as you need. A live preview of the invoice appears beside the form.

  4. 4

    Set the details

A due date is required. Choose the currency (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD or AUD), a tax rate as a percentage, and optional notes, such as payment terms.

  5. 5

    Save as draft or send

A draft stays private to your team. Sending emails the client a branded message with a link to view and pay.

Invoice numbers are generated for you, in the form INV-202610-1234, and the subtotal, tax and total are calculated automatically.

Bill tracked time

If you use the Time Tracker, unbilled hours can become a draft invoice in one click. See Time tracking and billing.

Not ready to send? Save a draft and come back. Nothing reaches the client until you press Send.
